Sammy James - Automated Music

News

We are proud to announce the forthcoming release of FM, Sammy James's next instrumental-synthesizer solo album. This four-song EP is the culmination of five years of work creating sounds using Native Instruments FM8, a frequency-modulation software synth that emulates keyboards like the Yamaha DX-7. Sammy programmed every single sound on this album from scratch, using only FM8 as his sound source -- including all of the drum sounds (which he then imported into the Native Instruments Battery 3 drum sampler).

Sammy used as many as 22 simultaneous instances of FM8 and Battery 3 altogether, playing each part with a music keyboard -- by hand -- into Steinberg's Cubase Digital Audio Workstation. He then edited and mixed the songs until he was satisfied with the results. Sammy used a custom-built MAINGEAR PC that he configured to run audio software.

FM draws inspiration from 80s, 90s, and 2000s acts like Harold Faltermeyer, William Orbit, and Slyder. It will be available on May 21, 2013. You can stream the first track, Deep Water Horizon, on the "Free Samples" section of the Shop page. You can also pre-order the EP on iTunes and download The Mall of Generica right now.
